Little neck clams are the smallest of the clam family. They are tender with a mellow flavor. These small, hard shell clams were served in some of the best restaurants in New York as well as European capitals in the mid-to-late 1800s and were quite the delicacy. These specific clams hailed from Little Neck Bay in Long Island, New York thus the name “littleneck clam” was adopted to describe this small variety.
