Piazza Seafood Presents: YaYa’s Comfort Food, Harahan, La.

At the end of Hickory Ave., in Harahan, La., sits a cabin-style building that is the new home of a breakfast/lunch spot that is selling out of daily specials regularly. Reminiscent of a place you would see when you pull off an exit into a quaint little town, YaYa’s Comfort Food is the first restaurant for Executive Chef Conner Mullins. This Harahan/River Ridge native and former chef at the acclaimed Brigsten’s Restaurant has always wanted to do a breakfast focused restaurant to share his love for all things breakfast.

“What’s that they say? Breakfast is the most important meal of the day,” Mullins lightheartedly states.

In addition to this important meal, Mullins father who previously owned Harahan Café encouraged him to expand and add lunch as well. He did, and since they opened three months ago, the lunch rush has been a quintessential part of his business.

More than Eggs

Growing up in a family where food was comfort and spoke of togetherness and love, Mullins learned from an early age that cooking was going to be an essential part of his life. Mullins started as a dishwasher when he was 12 at his father’s restaurant and later became a full-time chef. Ironically, a lot of the recipes Mullins’ uses at YaYa’s are the same as his family used growing up.

“I cook comfort food,” says Mullins. “[It’s] a juiced up version,” he jokingly adds.

YaYa’s brings a special flare that has locals buzzing. Along with the breakfast staples, Mullins has poboys daily as well. These ‘juiced up’ po-boys showcase pork belly, fried chicken breast, hot sausage, roast beef and of course Piazza shrimp. The “Bubba”, its name giving a nod to its southern roots, features fried shrimp tossed in a house made remoulade sauce. The shrimp is lightly battered giving it a nice texture to pair with soft bread and a tangy sauce to tie it all together. Mullins learned about Piazza Seafood through the various vendors in the industry but what keeps him ordering is the price.

“Price and convenience,” says Mullins.

Love to Cook

Piazza Seafood prides itself on being a seafood source for local chefs as well as the everyday individual looking to prepare seafood in their home.

The togetherness and love that Mullins can remember while cooking with family is the same type of feeling you can experience when eating at YaYa’s.
